Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to expand Medicare to include all Americans, pass a windfall profits tax on big corporations, and protect women’s health care in America. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Civic Shout helps you demand that your Congressfolk expand Medicare to include everyone. I don’t mean to put down the accomplishments of the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, because they have helped people. But our government couldn’t possibly do a worse job delivering health insurance than private health insurance corporations do. And now they’ve become banksterized! Which means more surprise medical bills for you, more income-redistribution-upward to executives, and less health care for everyone. And brook no how-will-we-pay-for-it silliness! We would pay for it by converting the money corporations already pay private health insurance corporations into an employer-side payroll tax. Even the Koch Brothers said that’d save us all money.
Demand Progress helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass a windfall profits tax. Inflation was higher than it’d been in 40 years through much of 2021 and 2022, but corporations reported record profits at the same time, and hopefully you don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to see the connection between those two phenomena. Congress can and must pass a windfall profits tax to claw some of that money back, which we can then use to, you know, provide services all Americans can use. We can also discourage corporations from gouging us in the future. Brook no you’re-punishing-success silliness! “Success” is not forcing good Americans to pay more for food and gas than they have to. Success should be useful to all of us.
Finally, Americans for Contraception helps you tell your House Reps to pass the Right to Contraception Act, while Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to repeal the Comstock Act, a law that aims to prohibit our Postal Service from delivering any birth control- or abortion-related materials. I know, Senate Republicans blocked the Right to Contraception Act, but who would we be if we just gave up after that? We’re right, and they’re wrong, and that still better count for something! And while a 1934 Second Circuit ruling essentially neutered the Comstock Act, our Supreme Court would love to de-neuter it, so we’ve got to get rid of it now.
