Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to protect us from financial predators, reject new corporate tax cuts, and end the notorious practice of “judge-shopping.” Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Americans for Financial Reform helps you tell your Congressfolk to reject any effort to repeal the Biden Administration’s fiduciary responsibility rule. So what’s that about? The Biden Administration enacted a rule requiring financial advisors to look out for their clients’ well-being first. Seems common-sensical, right? But financial advisors are too often financial predators, so our government has to step in and make them do the right thing. Sad, but necessary. So naturally Republicans in Congress want to stop our government from making financial advisors do the right thing! They’ll call it evidence of a “nanny-state,” but it’s not our fault banksters too often act like they need a nanny. So let’s get to stepping.
Civic Shout helps you tell your Congressfolk to reject new corporate tax breaks Republicans want to enact, while Americans for Tax Fairness helps you tell your Congressfolk to let a specific part of the Trump tax “reform” law expire, that being the “pass-through” loophole. All of the Trump tax cuts were far more for the rich than for you or I, but the “pass-through” loophole – which taxes entities like partnerships, sole proprietorships, S corporations at a rate much lower than income tax rates – also lets rich folks to take massive tax breaks, though of course they sold it as a “small business” tax cut. Like all corporate welfare, we should rocket it to oblivion.
Finally, Americans for Financial Reform also helps you tell your Congressfolk to outlaw “judge-shopping,” or the practice of fishing around for a suitable district to file a lawsuit in so you can get the result you want. Now that’s picking winners and losers! We only need consider that stupid anti-mifepristone and misopropol lawsuit our Supreme Court recently struck down 9-0, because the plaintiffs totally went for the far-right Fifth Circuit because they knew they’d get a judge who’d tell them what they wanted to hear. File the lawsuit and get justice where you were actually hurt, that’s what I say. Of course, right-wingers hate that, because then they might lose. Right-wingers sure do need a diaper change if losing bothers them that much.
