Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to protect election workers, expand Social Security, and fully fund our IRS. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Civic Shout helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the Election Worker and Polling Place Protection Act, which would, as you might imagine, stiffen penalties for threatening or causing harm to election workers and polling places. Shame we even have to pass such a bill! But we now live in a nation where whiny-ass sore losers threaten the lives and livelihoods of election workers who counted the votes in an election Their Personal Lord and Savior lost. I think the people who threaten election workers over Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss are the lowest of the low – and not least because they generally don’t even have the guts to carry out their threats. So it’s time to get all law-and-order on them.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to protect and expand Social Security by taxing the rich harder. At present, income over $168,600 doesn’t get taxed into the system at all! But if we did that, we could actually shore up the trust fund in the long term – not that I really expect the trust fund to ever fall short, but whatever – and we could also expand benefits so good Americans can enjoy their much-deserved retirement more. At least our “liberal” media isn’t giving so much oxygen to the ZOMG YOU MUSTZ CUTZ ALL TEH BENEFITZ!!!!!! crowd. That happens when you demand more justice! Now we just have to keep following through until Congress does our will.
Finally, the Coalition on Human Needs helps you tell your Congressfolk to stop trying to scale back IRS funding. The Inflation Reduction Act expanded IRS funding, as you know, but Republicans have pretended that’s some kind of existential threat or something – if they can come for rich folks, they can come for you ha ha ha ha our IRS has only been coming after us because they didn’t have the money to fight rich people’s lawyers! The good news? Republicans made our IRS an election issue in 2022, and it didn’t work out for them, much like whining about crime and immigration didn’t work out for them. Still, we need to put them on notice, since they’ll pretend we don’t matter the first chance they get.
