Long story short: tell our government to better protect workers from heatstroke and keep cheap imports out of America, and tell your Governor to opt your state into our IRS’s Direct File program. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
More Perfect Union helps you tell our Department of Labor to issue the most vigorous possible rules protecting workers from extreme heat. We just endured a heat dome for most of the last week, and a lot of folks work outside all day, and their jobs (especially in Texas, amirite?) often don’t even have to give them water breaks. Yes, a lot of undocumented immigrants work outside, too! But if you’re the one who says well they should have known the dangers when they came here, then step away from this blog; it’s not for you. Cruelty is never the right answer, and nobody should have to suffer from extreme heat just because some boss says a minute spent drinking water is a minute spent “not working.”
Trade Justice helps you tell our Office of the Trade Representative to protect us from cheap foreign products made by workers paid too little. The Biden Administration has proposed imposing tariffs “strategically,” and I bet his plan could be better. Still, it would do a lot of good, and when the pundidiots on the TV wail about TEH ECONOMIEZ WILLZ BE TEH DESTROYEDZ!!!!!!, just remember that ending cheap imports empowers more local businesses and more local workers, and that it also means we’ll pollute less hauling it around. Also remember that Donald Trump had four years to do something like this, and (just like with infrastructure) he did nothing.
Finally, the Coalition on Human Needs helps you tell your Governor to opt your state into our IRS’s Direct File program, so that you and yours can enjoy the benefits of filing your taxes for free with our government. While it is true that most Americans can in theory already file for free with the big tax prep corporations, most Americans don’t file for free because the big tax prep corporations go out of their way to make that process confusing! And you know what happens then – people give up and resign themselves to paying hundreds of dollars for something they should get for nothing. Why, it’s almost like that’s the whole idea! Here’s a better idea: let folks actually use a service they paid for with their taxes.
