Long story short: tell our government to get rid of Postmaster General DeJoy, offer student debt relief to millions of borrowers, and stop the proposed Capital One/Discover merger. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
Demand Progress helps you tell President Biden to appoint two more members to our USPS Board of Governors who will finally fire Postmaster General DeJoy. We’ve gone over the reasons – he’s raised prices, slashed jobs, and cut services including the delivery of life-saving medicines to good Americans. But he’s also cut salaries for rural postal carriers (Republicans must think they’ll never lose rural voters!), and he’s done nothing about mail delays all across America (after all, if he did, how could he privatize our Postal Service?). We’ve actually been seeing a lot of good government lately, but we really need to see it here, too.
RISE helps you tell our Department of Education to offer student debt relief to millions of good Americans. To those who still all college kids are all baristas with gender studies degrees, I can only say a) you can learn a lot by actually listening to women and b) we offered them a rose garden if they went to college but gave them jobs shoveling shit. And I won’t even discuss those who oppose it simply because their pain is more important than everyone else’s. Our DOE has proposed forgiving $20,000 of student debt, plus all interest for some working families and some relief for folks with decades-old debt. Whom does a hand up offend?
Finally, Demand Progress helps you tell our Department of Justice Antitrust Division to stop the proposed Capital One/Discover merger. Not just because I like my outstanding Discover customer service, thank you very much! (And it will go away if Capital One buys it! Anything people do to make a corporation better always does!) Frankly, no bank should be as big as Capital One is, let alone as big as it’ll become if we let it assimilate Discover. And not for nothing, but Capital One banksters already charge usurious interest rates; think that’ll get better if we let them get bigger? So let’s help put a stop to that.
