Long story short: tell your Pennsylvania state legislators to end gerrymandering, and tell your Congressfolk to protect us from junk fees and expand Social Security. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Pennsylvania residents, take note: Common Cause helps you tell your state legislators to pass the Fair Districts Amendment, which would help us finish off gerrymandering once and for all. The bill would take redistricting away from self-interested politicians and give it to an independent redistricting commission of 11 folks randomly selected from among qualified Pennsylvanians. We’re all tired of representatives choosing their voters with Rorschach blot-shaped districts that exclude individual blocks and even individual houses; the Fair Districts Amendment would help us put an end to all that.
Our Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (or CFPB) just cut credit card late fees to $8, but objectively pro-junk fee House Republicans want to stop that, so Americans for Financial Reform helps you tell your Congressfolk to reject efforts to repeal the CFPB anti-junk fee rule. Hard to believe that any Republican thinks “make Americans keep paying onerous fees" is a political winner, let alone a moral or practical one; it’s like they want Democrat attack ads – or they know those attack ads aren’t coming, because Democrat weakness. We can make all that a null issue by communicating our will in numbers no one deny.
Finally, Civic Shout helps you tell your Congressfolk to expand Social Security. We can ensure we all have dignified retirements by finally taxing income over $168,600 into Social Security, but Republican “solutions” all start and finish with cutting benefits. Again, how is “taking food out of Grandma’s mouth” a political winner, let alone a moral or practical one? Democrats, stop out-thinking yourselves – or, perhaps more precisely, stop serving the same corporate paymasters Republicans do and making it look like you’re just out-thinking yourselves. I crafted a sample pro-Social Security ad in the first paragraph here. You’re welcome, Democrats.
