Long story short: tell our EPA to ban chlorpyrifos again, tell big chocolate corporations to stop using child labor, and tell our government to stop buying single-use plastics. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
US PIRG helps you tell our Environmental Protection Agency (or EPA) to ban chlorpyrifos, again. The science remains clear on chlorpyrifos’s ill effects on childhood development, but late last year our 8th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down our EPA’s ban, ruling that they didn’t evaluate whether chlorpyrifos had “high-benefit uses” on certain crops – though another court had ordered them to either ban chlorpyrifos entirely or demonstrate those uses were safe! Sound like a setup? Doesn’t matter – not only must we fight to do the right thing, we also must fight to defend it.
The Daily Kos Liberation League helps you tell big chocolate corporations Hershey’s, Nestlé, and Mars to get the child labor out of their supply chains right now. They already promised to do it! 20 years ago! And they still haven’t done it! It’s like these corporate executives never had mamas to teach them to keep their promises. Seriously, though, does working two million African children to the bone justify cheap chocolate bars in America? I’m afraid of how some Americans would answer that question! But most of us know the right answer, and would do the right thing.
Finally, Environmental Action helps you tell our federal government to stop using single-use-plastic. Maybe you and I can’t root all the plastic out of our lives because we don’t control all manufacturing or routinely invent better alternatives to contemporary poisons in our kitchen sinks, but our government, which is about the biggest buyer of anything as well as the biggest plastic polluter on Earth, had better be able to root out single-use plastic in their purchases. Hell, if you have that kind of power, why wouldn’t you use it for good? Because it’s hard? Anything worth doing is hard!
