Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to protect women’s health care, bring back the Child Tax Credit expansion, and pass the PRO Act. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Moms Rising helps you tell your Congressfolk to support legislation that protects women’s health care, including abortion and birth control. Polling consistently tells us that most Americans support abortion and birth control, which is yet another reason I don’t give up on the American people, even if their leaders are monsters. And supporting abortion and birth control is the right thing to do! No one salivates at the prospect of aborting a fetus, but the far worse thing to do is to re-create a society that values women only as breeders, and that’s where the pro-life movement aims to go. No use brandishing the word “religion” at me, either. Last I looked, both Judaism and Islam agreed with me, and they’re religions, too.
NETWORK, the Catholic social justice lobby, helps you tell your Congressfolk to bring back the Child Tax Credit expansion from 2021. You remember, the one that put $250 and $300 checks per child in working families’ bank accounts every month? Seems to me if Virginia’s Republican Governor can schedule tax rebates to hit voters’ mailboxes the week before Election Day, Democrats could have reminded them of the $250 and $300 campaign ads that hit working families’ bank accounts every month. Sadly, they’re still too weak to do that, let alone keep those actual tax cuts coming, but that’s why we’ve got to tell them what to do all the time.
Finally, Patriotic Millionaires helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the PRO Act, which would make it a lot easier for American workers to organize and bargain collectively for better pay and working conditions. We’re seeing how well unions work for good Americans even now with the United Auto Workers’ recent victory over Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, a victory that includes 25% pay raises over the next 4 ½ years and the reopening of a Belvedere, IL plant that had employed 1,200 workers. The PRO Act would, among other things, make it a lot harder for corporations to force workers to attend anti-union meetings, so Congress needs to get that done.
