Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to prevent genocide against Palestinians, stop this interminable government shutdown drama, and cancel school lunch debt. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Jewish Voice for Peace helps you tell your Congressfolk to do what they can to stop Israel from committing genocide against Palestinians. Don’t let folks interpret this call as anti-Semitic, or even as dismissive of Israeli losses – I mourn all the dead; every life taken by terrorism represents one fewer chance at a better world. But if we can’t oppose genocide, then what good are we, really? And justifying the genocide of Palestinians by pointing to Hamas’s evil is, logically, rather like justifying a genocide of Americans by pointing to our right-wing domestic terrorists. Indeed, Mr. Putin used similar reasoning to attack Ukraine. Want a good rule for living? Don’t be like Vladimir Putin.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk not to let our government shut down, again. You know what government shutdowns mean – parks close, checks don’t go out, no food stamps for folks who need it, air traffic controllers work for nothing if we’re very lucky – and since our government belongs to us and exists only to do our will, then politicians are defying our will if they let it shut down without funding it properly. I do not give one rat’s hind quarter if Republicans still haven’t elected a House Speaker by then, because work is work, and duty is duty. These preening, drama-loving "representatives" make almost three times what I make, but I earn every cent, unlike them.
Finally, RISE helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the School Lunch Debt Cancellation Act, which would (as its title suggests) cancel the $260-plus million in school lunch debt that somehow encumbers our nation’s children in the richest country on Earth. Seriously, we can’t call ourselves a civilized society if we won’t feed kids because they can’t afford school lunches which our taxes should already pay for. I’m happy to report that in five American states taxes do now make school lunches free for our children, but can we at least alleviate the suffering of those who don’t have that yet? And can we at least stop shaming our kids for something that’s not their fault at all? We don't use shame just because we can, after all.
