Long story short: tell our FCC to reinstate net neutrality rules, tell our CMS to negotiate the best possible prices for prescription drugs, tell cable corporations to stop paying the “Fox fee,” and tell our government to get rid of Postmaster General DeJoy already. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
Demand Progress helps you tell our Federal Communications Commission (or FCC) to restore the most vigorous net neutrality rules possible. Our FCC did that in 2015, with a vital assist from President Obama, but let’s not forget the real heroes of this battle: the millions of Americans, liberal and conservative, who pounded our FCC with public comments endorsing internet freedom. And let’s not forget the real villains, either: the Trump Administration FCC, which saw that rare example of actual bipartisanship among the American people and told us all to go fuck ourselves, putting the wishes of big corporations to throttle and censor and prioritize internet content the way they wanted (and not the way we wanted) above our will. But corporations are things, and not more important than people, so let’s remind our FCC of that.
More Perfect Union helps you tell our Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (or CMS) to negotiate the best prices possible for drugs. Yes, we got a limited Medicare drug price negotiation plank into the Inflation Reduction Act, but it won’t be worth a damn if our government capitulates to big corporations over price, which is always a danger, so we’ve got to make sure they hear that. They’re certainly hearing from big pharma corporations, which are no doubt telling them that lower prices for consumers means “less innovative” drugs, but Jesus Mary and Joseph that is literally the opposite of how innovation works! Nobody innovates because they have the financial freedom to innovate; they innovate because they must. And our government is still the best tool to force them to innovate.
Common Cause helps you tell your cable corporation to stop paying the “Fox fee” and thus keep the notorious Fox News Channel off our free cable packages. No one – and certainly not a corporation – has a “right” to charge cable corporations an onerous amount of money to get its content across to the masses, and Fox News costs almost as much on your basic cable package as ESPN. How about that: the two media outlets that have done the most damage to our civilization over the last 30 years just so happen to the ones extracting the most money from cable corporations – and therefore you, since you pay cable bills. There’s a lesson in there, somewhere. If we come out in force, cable corporations will have to listen – and you’ll get a break on your cable bills.
Finally, Demand Progress also helps you tell our government to take the steps necessary to oust Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General. That’d require two new members of our USPS Board of Governors, but really, this ain’t tough: Mr. DeJoy has done a bad job. No use arguing he “inherited” a “mess” at our Postal Service, because he made the mess! He cut services, cut jobs, and raised prices, not his predecessors! And certainly no use arguing that our Postal Service was “losing money” because a) Congress fixed the problem that was causing money losses (the absurdly onerous health insurance and pension pre-payment mandate) in the Postal Service Reform Act and b) our Postal Service isn’t supposed to “make money”! It’s supposed to provide services to the American people.
