Long story short: tell Hollywood to meet actor/writer demands and end their strike, tell Meta to encrypt Messenger chats already, and tell our IRS to ensure that all good Americans can file their taxes directly for free. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
Americans for Tax Fairness helps you tell big Hollywood corporate executives to end the writers/actors strike by meeting their demands. Don’t let the occasional Seth MacFarlane or Adam McKay lead you to believe the life of a Hollywood writer is cush – the vast majority of Hollywood writers have just as much trouble making the bills as you or I, while the vast majority of Hollywood executives make millions of dollars, and want to replace all their writers and actors with AI as we speak. Of course, as Simon Pegg has pointed out, AI only imitates other folks’ work and has nothing of consequence to say on its own. Also too, all workers are important. So let’s get in these bosses’ grills.
UltraViolet helps you tell Meta to install end-to-end encryption for all Messenger chats like it said it would. While Meta fiddles, good Americans go to jail for having abortions or helping their family members get abortions – and Meta enables it all by turning over their data to law enforcement! If Meta had to turn over a bunch of data it couldn’t read and cops couldn’t read, that’d help good Americans struggling against our Supreme Court’s right-wing tyranny. You might say this isn’t particularly a law-and-order stance, but I reserve that phrase largely for banksters, polluters, and fascists, not for folks just trying to muddle through, and certainly not for folks offending right-wing wannabe tyrants. Shouldn’t we get more say than wannabe tyrants?
Finally, the Coalition on Human Needs helps you tell our Internal Revenue Service (or IRS) to support direct, free tax filing for all Americans. Our IRS will start a pilot program for direct, free tax filing next year, but this ain’t rocket science, particularly since our IRS already has all the information it needs to do your taxes and we hardly need all the private, for-profit tax-filing corporations standing between us and our obligations to our civilization. I’m sure right-wingers will get around to saying that private tax-filing corporations are job creators, but I suspect most Americans will find that as unconvincing an attempt at hostage-taking as I do.
