Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to protect abortion rights, cut our bloated defense budget, and fight excessive CEO pay. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to reject the Republican national abortion ban, while UltraViolet helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the Abortion Justice Act, which would protect abortion rights. With six of 10 Americans saying our Supreme court decided the Dobbs wrongly, with 20 of 50 states banning or restricting abortion rights over the last year, with two states putting women in prison for getting an abortion, with women having to get life-saving hysterectomies instead of the medically-necessary abortions that wouldn’t have put their lives at risk in the first place, it shouldn’t be hard for our Congressfolk to do the right thing, but they’ll screw it up if we don’t tell them.
Public Citizen helps you tell your Congressfolk to cut $100 billion from our defense budget. That would still leave around $800 billion for defense, so I don’t think we’ll suffer too badly. We already spend more money on killing machines than the next nine countries combined – their number includes China and Russia, by the way, and we spend 10 times what Russia does – and our Defense Department has itself identified over $100 billion in waste, so you could say that cutting $100 billion from our defense budget is a no-brainer. Of course, it’s not a no-brainer for the no-brain-having-people who represent us in Congress, which is why we have to get in their grills all the time.
Patriotic Millionaires helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act, which would tax corporations at a higher rate when they pay their CEOs more than 50 times more than their average worker. That’s not a whole lot to ask, frankly, when my preference would be to tax millionaire income at 91% and tax corporations at least as hard as regular folks – hey, they want to be “people” so badly! – but the Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act would improve our civilization, so we ought to enact it. When CEOs make over $100 million a year, and make 300 times what their lowest-paid workers make, we’ve got to do something about that. Don’t listen to folks who tell you it’s “socialist.” They all drive roads, after all.
