Long story short: tell your PA state legislators to fight medical debt and water corporation price-gouging, and tell your Senators to stop letting holds keep our government from doing their work. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Pennsylvania residents, take note: HB 78, the Medical Debt Relief Act would help good Pennsylvanians get out from under their medical debt, by establishing a Medical Debt Relief Program that would buy up and discharge said debt – which is what organizations like RIP Medical Debt – and, before you ask, would expressly prohibit the Pennsylvania state government from collecting on that debt in Sec. 3 (c) (3) (vi). Imagine that, government doing something that actually improves our lives! The Medical Debt Relief Act merits a phone call to your PA House Reps; the Pennsylvania Health Access Network helps you find your PA Rep, as does the OpenStates tool in the upper right-hand corner of this page.
Staying with Pennsylvania politics for a moment, Food and Water Watch helps you tell your state Senators to repeal Act 12, which enables a lot of predatory water and sewer pricing in the Commonwealth. It’s like I keep going out of my way to say “Commonwealth” for a reason – and it’s almost like that reason is that our water belongs to all of us, and we shouldn’t let private corporations gouge us merely because they provide a service. Ideally our government should provide that service – privatizing water and sewer services doesn’t mean better service, but it does mean regular folks pay more for them. So let’s make sure our state Senators understand all of that.
Finally, Common Cause helps you tell our Senators to ensure they evaluate and confirm Justice Department nominees. Sen. Vance (E-OH) has put a hold on all Justice Department nominees because waaaaaaah, I mean because of the “weaponization” of our Justice Department against Donald Trump, and I have to say he’s not being very conservative here – I mean, a conservative would say if you don’t want to be hounded by law enforcement, don’t do so many crimes! Or do they only say that to Black folks? Anyway, we might want to call our Senators and tell them to get rid of holds entirely. That Tommy Tuberville is also making a mess of things with Defense-related holds.
