Long story short: tell world governments to ban octopus farming, tell Trinseo PLC to stop polluting the Delaware River, and tell President Biden to reverse course on the Willow Project and reject efforts to bring back family separation. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
Avaaz helps you tell world governments to ban octopus farming. Octopi, in case you haven’t heard, are intelligent enough that folks joke (or perhaps “joke”!) that they’re aliens from another planet, so let’s not create a massive torture chamber for them – as an octopus farm would surely be – so food corporation executives can make more money. Note well that elephants mourn their dead, and nobody eats an elephant – and we’re making headway keeping people from hunting them for their tusks. Is this is a slippery slope to starvation, as we one day discover that chickens and cows and salmon are sentient and pissed? We don’t have the tools to say that yet, and by then 3D printers might actually be good food replicators.
Change.org helps you tell Trinseo PLC to stop poisoning the drinking water of good Americans in the Delaware Valley. You heard of the chemical spill in the Delaware River a little over a week ago? That was Trinseo PLC of Bristol, PA, leaking 10,000 gallons of butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, and ethyl acrylate into good Americans’ drinking water, and sadly, they’ve got a record of screwing up, as most chemical corporations do. Is that an excuse to throw up your hands and say that’s just the price of living with chemicals? A right-winger would do that, but a civilized person wouldn’t! A civilized person would demand that we “live with chemicals” by keeping good Americans safe from them.
Daily Kos helps you tell President Biden to reverse course on the Willow oil drilling project in the Arctic. Yes, the Biden Administration approved it in mid-March, but at the same time prohibited all other drilling on federal lands nearby, which means he could, in theory, do the same thing to Willow. Possibly he’s gambling on ConocoPhillips competitors (ConocoPhillips got the permits to pursue the Willow Project) suing the project into endless delays, but let’s not assume Presidents play 13-dimensional chess. Instead, let’s play 3-D chess, where we demand that he does the right thing until he does it.
Finally, the Daily Kos Liberation League helps you tell President Biden to scrap plans to bring back the family separation policies for which Donald Trump became rightly notorious. OK, one of the many, many things for which he became rightly notorious! But as with Title 42, the program that pretends COVID pandemics come from Mexicans more frequently than from rage-addled Americans, this is yet another stain on our national character we need to scrub out of our national character. And, you know, there’s a reason we call detention centers “concentration camps” – they treat detainees badly. And as I’ve often said, a great nation doesn’t have to do that.
