Ho hum, George Santos actually thinks he’s going to run for a second term and thinks they-got-me-like-Jesus is the argument that’ll earn him victory, but what George Santos doesn’t get is that, no matter how much you act like him, acting like Donald Trump works only for Donald Trump. Ain’t nobody running through a wall for George Santos just because he’s dramatic like Donald Trump. On the other hand, given his fundraising activities, he clearly gets at least one thing exactly as well as Donald Trump: that grift is the only thing that really matters.
Also ho hum, Rep. Andy Ogles (E-TN), last seen arrogantly ignoring federal disclosure laws, has also said an awful lot of different things in his various résumés, such as how he’s an “economist” when he appears to have received no extensive training in the subject. But in the post-January 6 era, people like George Santos and Andy Ogles are the only folks left Republicans can run! No “sane” “moderates” are coming to the rescue! (Also, I wouldn’t tout my “expertise” in a damn thing based on a connection with Arthur Laffer. That man is the OG of BS.)
At least one California startup is recycling used batteries from electric cars for solar power storage, which will certainly help keep them out of landfills for at least a few more years. And this is exactly the kind of entrepreneurship that results from Big Gubmint stewardship! If states weren’t investing in renewable power grids, this market might not exist, and we’d be putting more toxic crap into our planet. I know more than a few right-wingers will howl HAHAHAHA TEH ELEKTRIX AREN’TZ SO RENEWABLEZ ARE THEYZ!!!!!!, but surely we know better than to let the perfect murder the good.
Heather Digby Parton at Salon reminds us that Donald Trump has been ramping up the “ghastly homicidal rhetoric” about crime lately – why, he’s even talking of bringing back the guillotine and televising executions! – but ball-swinging about crime sure didn’t work for Republicans in 2022, or else they’d have a comfortable margin in our House and any margin in our Senate, plus they’d have done a lot better in Pennsylvania and Michigan. Of course, if the economy’s in the toilet by mid-2024 – and Our Glorious Elites, furious at our President’s ramped-up efforts at trust-busting, will do their damnedest to bring that about! – I guess anything could work, not that we’d ever really know.
From The Intercept we learn that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (N-AZ) started a consulting firm with a fellow Democratic state Rep who later became a payday loan industry lobbyist. Why, it’s almost like she’s twirling a mustache – or brandishing a Fuck Off ring! Everyone involved wants us to believe the firm has never done anything in 15-plus years, but it sure seems like there’s no unpopular bankster Kyrsten Sinema won’t kowtow to. I wonder if her veterans advisory board told her that payday lenders trap our veterans in a cycle of debt. And I wonder if she then told them to stay in their lane.
Finally, let’s have a little more good news today! A group of formerly-incarcerated folks have convinced the city of Atlanta to recognize them as a protected class, which could shield them from the kind of discrimination that former prisoners face every damn day when they get out of prison. I’m sure some “well-meaning” right-winger stands ready to say that our Constitution doesn’t allow just anyone to be protected from discrimination, but fact is Our Glorious Elites come up with new ways to discriminate all the time, and if our Constitution can’t prevent bad people from discriminating against good Americans, then what’s it for?
