Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to get private corporations out of Medicare and close corporate tax loopholes, and tell our FTC to investigate the egg industry for price-gouging. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Demand Progress helps you tell your Congressfolk to get private insurance corporations out of Medicare. Tha Bush Mobb opened the door to private corporations taking taxpayer money to deliver worse service than our government – and thus “prove” the right-wing canard that TEH BIG GUBMINTZ DOESN’TZ WORKZ!!!! – and even under President Biden that door’s opened wider, even though higher costs and worse service accompany every privatization scheme. And instead of worrying that your granddad won’t get dental and hearing care, ask yourself why every Medicare recipient doesn’t get dental and hearing care. (Spoiler alert: Kyrsten Sinema wouldn’t allow it in 2021, because bipartisanship!)
Patriotic Millionaires helps you tell your Congressfolk to close corporate tax loopholes. Of course, another way to describe corporate tax loopholes is corporate welfare, since corporations are getting public money for doing not a damn thing. Or for doing what they were going to do anyway! Seriously, corporations need an “incentive” to spend money developing products? What the hell else do they have to do? Yes, I know, corporations have spent the last 40 years doing nothing but whatever raises their stock prices, and some of President Biden’s policies have started to break that nefarious trend. But we still need to tell our Congressfolk that corporate welfare is evil and that they need to fight it.
Finally, Demand Progress also helps you tell our Federal Trade Commission (or FTC) to investigate egg-producing corporations for price-gouging. Yes, anywhere you see price spikes like the one you’ve seen for eggs, your first suspicion should be fraud, and here just as elsewhere, the offending corporations are raising prices and garnering record profits. It’s a shame it’s come to that, but I think it’s pretty obvious by now that big corporations are trying to steal all the money they can before President Biden’s FTC, SEC, and DOJ start winning too many antitrust cases. So we the people are not exactly at a disadvantage here – and we need to press our advantages wherever we can.
