Long story short: tell our government to stop COVID vaccine price-gouging, and tell our Congressfolk to enact legislation making Washington, D.C. a state and repealing the notorious Hyde Amendment. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell our Department of Health and Human Services (or HHS) to stop big pharma’s attempts to price-gouge us on COVID-19 vaccines. I almost typed “their” vaccines in that sentence, but that would have been a mistake, since they developed those vaccines with massive infusions of taxpayer money, i.e., our money. And that alone should give our HHS Department the authority to stop price-gouging on our behalf! Republicans will say they don’t have that right, but we all know by now that Republicans only hate the parts of Big Gubmint that actually help good Americans. So ignore them.
Daily Kos also helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass legislation granting statehood to Washington, D.C. Currently they don’t have it, even though they have more citizens than Vermont or Wyoming, and not having statehood causes problems – like when right-wing crybabies want to overthrow our government and D.C. has to wait for Virginia to call out their National Guard to help beat that attempted coup back. It causes other problems, like when right-wing politicians at the federal level make decisions for D.C. they shouldn’t be able to make. Don’t brook any whining about D.C. statehood meaning “two more Democratic Senators”! If Republicans want Senators that bad, they can win arguments.
Finally, Daily Kos also helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass the Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Insurance (or EACH) Act, which would repeal the Hyde Amendment (that prevents federal funding of abortion in public health insurance programs like Medicaid) and keep our government from interfering with private health insurance corporations that cover the cost of abortions. With 58% of Americans approving of Medicaid covering abortions and disapproving of the Hyde Amendment, our Congressfolk should understand that they need to adhere to the will of the people here, as elsewhere. It is their damn job, after all.
