Long story short: tell Alabama’s Governor to commute Rocky Myers’s death sentence, tell President Biden to hold the line against Republican debt-limit drama, and tell our Justice Department to go after states that try to make abortion drugs illegal. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
First things first. Amnesty International helps you tell Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey to commute Rocky Myers’s death sentence. Mr. Myers has been on death row for the murder of his neighbor since 1994, but his conviction has, well, more than a few problems – slim-to-none evidence actually links him to the murder and the evidence that does has inconsistencies and the taint of possible cop coercion, plus he’s been diagnosed as intellectually-disabled since he was 11 and his state-appointed appeals lawyer basically abandoned him. Oh, but there’s more: the judge in his case overruled the jury in giving him a death sentence, which is now illegal in Alabama. This shouldn’t be tough! Unless you’re trying to look “tough,” I guess.
Daily Kos helps you tell President Biden to keep holding the line against Republican debt ceiling hostage-taking. He’s been holding the line against this particular drama so far, but we’ll need to keep reminding him that we don’t want Republicans to crash the economy so they can get spending cuts they’re not even willing to spell out. The only people who want the chaos and disorder that comes with Republican hostage-taking are Our Glorious Elites, who have no memory of what real work is like, if they ever even did it in the first place. And (as evidenced, I would think, by the word “elites”) they sure ain’t a majority of Americans, so they shouldn’t get all the say about everything.
Finally, Daily Kos also helps you tell our Justice Department to challenge, in court, all state abortion bans that contravene federal law. Because they have a good argument – namely, that federal law invests in our Food and Drug Administration the authority to determine good Americans’ access to abortion drugs (which have proven to be safe enough to use at home) one can get through online or brick-and-mortar pharmacies, so states don’t actually have the right to ban such drugs. Remember: if you’re against abortion, don’t have one. You may have heard that a lot of pro-life women don’t even adhere to this dictum.
