Long story short: tell New York’s Governor to raise that state’s minimum wage to $20/hour, tell your Congressfolk to expel George Santos, and tell President Biden to get with the firing of Postmaster General DeJoy already. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
More Perfect Union helps you tell New York Governor Hochul to get on board with raising the state’s minimum wage to $20/hour (and New York City’s minimum wage to $21.25/hour). I can already hear the right-wingers shout WHENZ WILLZ ITZ ENDZ!!!!!, but we first started calling for a $15/hour minimum wage a decade ago, and it still ain’t quite there in New York state. And ain’t nobody’s food and rent prices got lower during that time! I bet we’ll eventually see legal action against today’s landlords for price-fixing, now that President Biden’s made that a thing our government does again. In the meantime, workers need a way to keep their heads above water.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to expel Rep. George Santos (R-NY). New York Democrats should have beaten this guy, but they didn’t, so now it’s up to us. Mr. Santos has done so badly that I even doubt he’s gay! Normally when someone says they’re gay, I figure they know themselves better than I do, even when it’s a guy who was married to a woman as recently as 2018 – being gay still gets you beat up in much of America, after all! But now that we know that he’s almost completely fabricated the rest of his life’s story, I don’t even trust him on the one thing I’d be inclined to trust him on. I bet a lot of his constituents feel the same, and they deserve better.
Finally, Daily Kos also helps you tell President Biden to fire Postmaster General DeJoy and expand postal services. After all, Mr. DeJoy tried to sabotage the 2020 election, and has cut jobs and cut services – including the delivery of life-saving medicines – while raising prices. Your typical, post-Reagan CEO pretends the only way to fix budget problems is to cut services, but a bold entrepreneur might say that bringing back basic banking services (which our Postal Service provided until the late ‘60s) might bring in more dough. But the right has folks thinking bold means stupid. Thankfully, we’re not stupid.
