Long story short: tell Puerto Rico’s government to end its association with the private power corporation that is failing its citizens, tell Pennsylvania state Senators to reject corporatists on the state Public Utilities Commission, and tell President Biden to replace two USPS Commissioners with folks who’ll fire Postmaster General DeJoy. Use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs to communicate your will.
MoveOn helps you tell the government of Puerto Rico to cancel LUMA Energy’s contract to deliver power there. Given the near-daily outages good Puerto Ricans suffered before Hurricane Fiona plunged them into near-total darkness, I’d say LUMA hasn’t even fulfilled its contract! And yet Puerto Rico’s government, which has until November 30 to renew LUMA’s contract, might well feel like they “have no choice,” despite good Puerto Ricans taking to the streets to protest LUMA’s failures. Don’t they know this is what private corporations do – do such a bad job that they make you feel like you “need” them? Let’s encourage Puerto Rico not to fall into this trap.
Pennsylvania residents, take note: Food and Water Watch helps you tell your state Senator to reject Gov. Wolf’s appointment of a pair of corporate cronies to the state Public Utilities Commission. One’s a re-appointment of a Commissioner who tends to come down on the side of private energy corporations more than objectivity demands, while the other has long-standing ties to energy corporations as a lobbyist. Right-wingers love telling you that only people in the industry understand the industry enough to regulate it; hopefully you see that as a pile of dung. They don’t say only burglars understand law enforcement, but their own logic compels them to conclude that.
Finally, Save the Post Office helps you tell President Biden to avoid renominating U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors Commissioner/Trumphole Donald Moak, and Daily Kos helps you tell Mr. Biden to replace both USPS Commissioners with expiring terms and replace them with folks who’ll fire Mr. DeJoy. These Commissioners approve of Mr. DeJoy’s cut services/raise prices/slash jobs plan, especially considering how many good Americans depend on our Post Office for their life-saving medicines. But we won’t get the service we deserve from our Post Office unless we speak out.
