Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to cap insulin prices for all Americans, tell your Senators to pass the Respect for Marriage Act, and tell your Congressfolk to expand affordable housing in year-end spending bills. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to cap insulin prices for all Americans. The Inflation Reduction Act caps insulin prices for Medicare patients, since that was all they could get through reconciliation; Democrats did try to get 60 votes for legislation capping insulin prices for everyone, but 43 Republican Senators opposed, so that legislation failed. Are Democrats running ads excoriating them for their vote on the insulin cap, particularly since they all also voted against the insulin cap for Medicare patients? If they are, they’re being quiet about it, which defeats the purpose of advertising. So we’ll do it for them, then.
Daily Kos also helps you tell your Senators to pass H.R. 8404/S. 4556, the Respect for Marriage Act, which would codify gay marriage and interracial marriage rights into our laws, preventing our Supreme Court from obliterating them, as they did with abortion rights in the Dobbs decision. Word on the street is that Democrats almost-but-not-quite got 60 votes for the bill or for some version thereof, but decided to wait until after the midterms, when they figured the voters might have delivered more Senators to the Democrats. But who cares what they want? They’re supposed to do what we want – to protect rights for which we’ve fought.
Finally, the Coalition on Human Needs helps you tell your Congressfolk to expand affordable housing funding in their year-end spending bills. Because that sure would be a better way of spending money than handing out yet more corporate welfare in the form of “tax extenders”! Eviction moratoria are long gone, too many Americans are way behind on their rent, and rich folks are still buying up too much of our housing just so they can show “assets” and get cheap loans from banks. That last era is about to end, thanks to our Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes, but good Americans still need – and deserve! – affordable housing, and where the “free” market won’t deliver, our government must.
