Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to pass the Respect for Marriage Act, tell our Interior Department to keep lead out of bullets and tackle used to hunt and fish on public lands, and tell your Congressfolk to pass the DISCLOSE Act. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Senators to pass H.R. 8404/S. 4556, the Respect for Marriage Act. Our House passed it a few weeks ago, but our Senators won’t, unless we get in their grills about it. The Respect for Marriage Act would protect gay and interracial marriage protections from our Supreme Court’s recent thirst for overturning the precedents that protected them in the first place. No, really, Justice Thomas specifically called for our Court to use the Dobbs decision (which overturned Roe v. Wade) to overturn rulings protecting gay and interracial marriage! So when the mustache-twirling villains actually tell us what they’ll do, we have to stop them.
Mobilize 4 Change helps you tell our Fish and Wildlife Service to ban lead from bullets and fishing tackle that Americans use on public lands. Really, is this so much to ask? Not a hunting ban, or a bullet ban, but a lead bullet ban. Any right-winger who complains about this is a whiner, simple and plain. I mean, I think they’re whiners anyway, but I bet everyone thinks the lead-bullets-or-bust crowd are a bunch of whiners. But when we hunt animals with lead bullets or go fishing with lead bait on public land, that lead gets into animals that don’t get hunted, like, apparently, half of all bald eagles. And that lead also gets into the water that we drink and that fish swim in. Seriously, this is a bank shot.
Finally, the Daily Kos Democracy Project helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass S. 443, the DISCLOSE Act, which would force large organizations to disclose their biggest donors, particularly when they run ads about judicial nominations. The bill would also expand prohibitions against foreign financing of campaigns to digital media, in case you were worried the Russians would spend heavily on Facebook ads favoring Republicans this year. I can’t say that’s a dumb worry! Anyway, huge majorities of Americans favor more campaign finance disclosure, so we should get more of what we want for all our trouble, maybe?
