Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act, and tell your Congressfolk to reject the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Moms Rising helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass both H.R. 3755, the Women’s Health Protection Act, and H.R. 8297, the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. The former bill would, as you know, prevent states from outlawing or limiting access to abortion, and would also outlaw state-level “heartbeat” and forced ultrasound laws as well. The Ensuring Access to Abortion Act would prevent states from outlawing traveling to another state to get an abortion; such a ban would violate the Commerce Clause, I would think, but lawlessness is no longer an impediment to getting our Supreme Court’s blessing. Word is our House will vote on these bills today, so we gotta get to it.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation helps you tell your Congressfolk to reject H.R. 1735/S. 673, the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, since it would only enable big journalism corporations to figure out how to bill anyone who deploys a link to their articles in a blog post or a newsfeed! That would be rather like billing scholarly works for the endnotes they use, which we do not do, because what civilized society would charge people for proving their point or buttressing their arguments? Newspapers ain’t dying because of technology; they’re dying because they only care about the bottom line and don’t do good work anymore. They should start doing good work again, maybe?
