Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to raise taxes on the rich for-real for-real, pass real climate change legislation, repeal the 2002 Iraq war authorization, and reduce absurdly high Medicare premiums. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Word on the street is Senate Democrats are straining to water down tax hikes on the rich in the House-passed Build Back Better Act, so call your Senators and tell them to stop that shit. I mean, we all pay our damn taxes; when will the folks who make millions of dollars an hour start paying their share? And yes, by every conceivable measure, their fair share is a lot larger than ours! That’s how it’s supposed to be! That’s how we built the greatest middle class in history! And that’s not “punishing success” – rich CEOs succeed only on the backs of millions of good Americans who work for them! Seriously, if Elon Musk had to grow his own food, he’d be knocking on every door in your neighborhood with his hands out.
With our Supreme Court dealing yet another body blow to our government’s ability to keep big corporations from hurting good Americans in West Virginia v. EPA, the Climate Reality Project helps you tell your Congressfolk to act on climate change – as in, explicitly give our EPA the authority to curtail it. You may have thought our EPA already had that authority – even the late Justice Scalia said so! – but our literal-when-we-want-to Supreme Court disagrees, and they’re out to destroy everything we’ve fought for, until our government is powerless to do anything but spy on us. Yes, that’s the endgame! And we Americans have shed too much blood and spent too much treasure to let that happen. Our Congressfolk need to know that.
Win Without War helps you tell your Congressfolk to repeal the 2002 AUMF that authorized war with Iraq, but which other Presidents have used to authorize all sorts of unconstitutional warmaking thereafter, including but not limited to former President Trump’s assassination of General Soleimani in 2019. Call the 2002 AUMF yet another humiliation visited upon good Americans in the wake of the “war on terror,” a “war” which may one day prove to be even more injurious to our great nation than the “war on drugs” has been. Yes, even though the “war on drugs” now exists almost entirely to put Black and Brown folks in prison! The 2002 AUMF is old enough to vote for stupid people now, so it’s well past time to send it to a much-deserved oblivion.
Finally, Social Security Works helps you tell the Biden Administration to lower outrageously-high Medicare premiums, preferably by rebating the overcharges to seniors before the midterms. Yeah, there’s some political calculation in there – yes, I said “some” because it’s also the right thing to do – but you know the other side only calculates; it’s why they’re irredeemably decadent and morally bankrupt. And Medicare really screwed up by deciding to cover the expensive-and-not-terribly-effective Alzheimer’s drug Aduhelm – and then did the right thing by only covering it for seniors in clinical trials. But Medicare still needs to do another right thing by reversing the premium hikes that covering Aduhelm caused in the first place.
