Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to strengthen Medicare instead of funding Medicare “Advantage” and investigate Sen. Ron Johnson’s role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and tell our FDA to make the abortion drug mifepristone widely available. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Social Security Works helps you tell your Congressfolk to end the Medicare “Advantage” program once and for all. Medicare “Advantage” siphons off Medicare funding to private health insurers, which are more costly and tend to deny care at the most inopportune times, so what’s the “advantage”? It offers vision, dental, and hearing care, which Medicare doesn’t. Well, here’s a better idea: have our Medicare offer vision, dental, and hearing – at a lower cost than some private health insurance corporation trying to insure its executives all have gas in their yachts. Your big campaign donation-sucking Congressfolk won’t like your logic, but keep bringing it to them.
Demand Progress helps you tell your Congressfolk to investigate Sen. Ron Johnson’s role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results. He’s gotten himself in the soup lately with the news that his staffers tried to hand a slate of “alternate” (i.e., fake) electors to Vice President Pence. He denied knowing anything about that at first, but then he said, now that he’d had time to think about it, he did know about it and got the list of fake electors from Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) – who, of course, promptly said he hadn’t spoken to Sen. Johnson in at least a decade. Which doesn’t preclude the possibility that Mr. Kelly's office provided Sen. Johnson with the lists! But let’s find out, and then punish the wrongdoers.
Finally, Change.org helps you tell our FDA to lift restrictions on the abortion drug mifepristone, which our FDA declared safe during the first trimester of a pregnancy over 20 years ago, but still lists in its most restricted category – along with fentanyl, among others! – and that’s a move that must have been an effort to pander to the pro-life industry. But mifepristone is much safer than that – in fact, medical studies have long found it to be even safer than Tylenol, a drug nobody thinks twice about taking. Widely-available mifepristone may be the only way for women in red states to get abortions now, so we should help them get it, lest Republicans succeed in turning all of them into mere breeders.
