Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to expand Social Security and our Supreme Court, and tell big corporations to stop donating to anti-abortion politicians. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Social Security Works helps you tell your Congressfolk to expand Social Security benefits by $200/month – an expansion that would help poorer seniors the most! – and fund it by taxing income over $250,000 into the system for the first time. As you know, Social Security currently only taxes income under $147,000, so you can see where taxing high income will help Social Security’s trust fund become even more solvent. Don’t believe the Henny Penny BS from right-wingers that TEH SOSHUL SECURITIEZ WILL RUNZ OUTZ OFZ TEH MONEYZ BYZ 2033!!!! or whatever date they’re saying now. Best to think that punditoids who say that on TV are just trying to steal Social Security from us.
CPD Action helps you tell your Congressfolk to get to expanding our Supreme Court already. It’s not enough to say Democrats just need to win more elections, and it’s certainly not enough to say just vote harder, as Democratic politicians tend to do, to their everlasting shame. It’s not even enough to surmise that we have 13 federal appeals courts and having one Supreme Court Justice per appeals court would obviously improve the appeals process. No, our Supreme Court has obviously gone rogue with all their recent rulings – they clearly don’t respect “precedent” anymore, unless that “precedent” is some half-truth about history from centuries ago. So, yeah, we gotta get angry now, and act on that anger.
Finally, Daily Kos helps you tell big American corporations to stop funding “forced birther” politicians. Big corporations are trying to get good PR by proclaiming they’ll pay for their employees’ abortions, but I’ve listed my doubts about that several times already – and I haven’t even mentioned that, for example, certain cancer treatments may result in an abortion so the mother can live, and I’m pretty sure corporate bureaucrats aren’t subtle enough to get that! And anyway, corporations that promise to pay for abortions but also funnel big campaign cash to the same politicians who have gotten us into this mess have pretty much told us how they really feel.
