Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to act on climate change, pass legislation protecting children’s privacy online, and fully fund our IRS so it can go after rich tax cheats . Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers and/or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Congressfolk to “step up” and fight climate change. Doesn’t matter that Joe Manchin derailed yet another stab at Build Back Better because of his “concerns” over inflation, because duty is duty. Surely our Congress could pass legislation specifically allowing our EPA to regulate climate change emissions, now that our Supreme Court has reversed itself (that part hasn’t been said enough!) and said our laws don’t specifically authorize that. I’d say, in the manner of Chuck Hagel, that if they can’t do that, they should go sell shoes, but they’d probably suck at that, too.
Fairplay helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass S. 3663, the Kids Online Safety Act, and S. 1628, the Children and Teens’ Online Protection and Privacy Protection Act. You know how miserable social media algorithms make adults? Now imagine how miserable they make kids, who literally can’t make adult-level decisions. Both these bills would protect childrens’ privacy better than our laws currently do – Congress passed the original Children Online Privacy and Protection Act in 1998, think anything’s changed since then? – and the Kids Online Safety Act would establish that online websites have a duty of care with regard to children, which sounds like it would take a club to all their hateful algorithms.
Finally, Americans for Tax Fairness helps you tell your Congressfolk to make the rich pay what they already owe in taxes, by properly funding our IRS once and for all. Brook no BS about how our IRS already has too much power – a fear right-wingers only voice when rich folks’ tax returns get leaked – because, frankly, our IRS doesn’t have too much power, not when they go after poor people before they go after rich people because poor people can’t afford lawyers. And what’s Joe Manchin going to do? Keep whining about inflation? They already owe the money. So we need to collect it.
