Kiera Butler at Mother Jones takes us "Inside the Private Facebook Groups Where Anti-Vaxxers Plot to Get Religious Exemptions." And all I can say is: this is a long, long way to go just to avoid getting a potentially life-saving vaccine just so you can stamp your feet about Donald Trump losing the election, and the folks objecting on the basis of their "religion of hedonism" ain't nowhere near as funny as they think they are. Also, how do they think their body got to be a temple? All those mandatory vaccines they couldn't go to school without might have had something to do with that. And maybe, just maybe, God actually supports them!
Thought the war in Afghanistan was over? Think again: we're still conducting illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional drone strikes in Afghanistan, including one targeting an "ISIS operative" who was actually an aid worker and "explosives" that were actually water bottles. Oh, that one killed seven civilians, too. Greatest country on Earth! By the time you hear that 90 percent of all drone strikes hit the wrong target, you'll hopefully be reminded that machines don't do nearly as good a job killing people as soldiers do. You may even think that using drones is even more cowardly than sending someone else's kids off to fight a war to enrich your corporate cronies.
Ho hum, scammers now use Facebook Marketplace to target users and you better not expect Facebook to come to your rescue. But, hey, you know, move fast and break things! Creative disruption! Rules are for little people! Spoiler alert: Facebook leaves too much up to algorithms to spot fake listings, just like with everything else, plus also overworked, low-paid contract workers, because the future! "I got some Brazilian rainforest to sell you" would become a cliché if it weren't so sad. And given how Brazil is these days, maybe those guys weren't scammers.
When I read that House Democrats wouldn't roll out dental coverage in Medicare until 2028, my very first thought was that Democrats couldn't really run on the Affordable Care Act's more popular provisions in 2010 because they hadn't gone into effect yet! I am of course tempted to say when will these weaklings ever learn?, but of course they're not weak, they just want you to think so, so that you'll subscribe to their drama, instead of demanding what you want. Hence you would not be rude to call your House Reps and tell them WTF, and F'ing do better.
Brazilian President/irredeemable asshole Jair Bolsonaro now says, after much saying of the opposite, that he'll trust the election results, whatever they'll be. It's a lie! It's a lyin'-ass lie! He wants to lull good Brazilians into a false sense of security so when he does stage a coup, they'll be taken by surprise. Donald Trump not only wishes he could get away with what Jair Bolsonaro does, he wishes he were as good a fascist as Jair Bolsonaro is. In those moments Mr. Trump permits himself to be honest about how he feels, that is. If he has any.
Finally, a University of Chicago study estimates that over 20 million Americans not only think Joe Biden is an "illegitimate President," but would be perfectly OK with the use of force to return Donald Trump to power. I'll probably say this more than once: you should suspect every Republican you know of being a fascist. I said every one! You should act as if there are no good ones. No, not even the one who lives around the block and lent you his hedge trimmer that one time. After all, how do you really know which are the ones who just want judges and tax cuts and which are the assholes who tried to destroy our country on January 6?
