Surprise, surprise, about half the Republican Senators who signed on to the "bipartisan" "infrastructure" "deal" announced by President Biden a few weeks back now have, ah, reservations. Now imagine them having "reservations" -- maybe each week a new Senator comes up with a new one! -- long enough that the deal falls apart, and then Sens. Manchin and Sinema refuse to sign onto the reconciliation bill that would work around Republican intransigence because of the failure of the "bipartisan" bill. Hey, if I thought of it, you know they have. I don't say this to depress you -- I say it to prepare you for the fight.
Dean Baker helps you "com(e) to grips" with the fear-mongering about runaway inflation coming from right-wingers. Long story short: the price hikes we're seeing mostly look like temporary price hikes, versus ones that reveal deeper structural issues (though if oil prices were to surge, that could change), and the bond market, where a lot of rich folks have a lot of money, is presently acting nothing like it would if runaway inflation were coming. Of course, if you were already inclined to see the pandemic as a temporary thing (even though it has gone on for almost a year and a half now), you were probably already immune to the fear-mongering.
Ho hum, our "liberal" media would really, really prefer it if we kept fighting the 20-years-and-counting Afghanistan War we're pulling back from now and really never should have fought in the first place. And they keep thinking war-mongers (whose number has included President Biden for a long time!) are "smarter" than everyone else, or "bolder" than everyone else, when fact is they're actually stupider and more cowardly. Jesus Mary and Joseph it doesn't take "courage" or "brains" to send a bunch of other people's children to die for the benefit of your corporate cronies.
"Protestors" cause violence at a town hall hosted by Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), with Ms. Porter at one point putting her arms around an elderly constituent to keep her from getting hurt. The only person police arrested was a Porter supporter, which is not at all suspicious. And note well that Trumpholes seem to be protesting the Democrats who actually fight the corruption they always say they hate, and not, say, the Democrats who actually worship big tech and consort with banksters. It's like Trumpholes aren't really honest actors or something.
Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin has already pulled out of a debate, because the moderator once gave $250 to the Clinton Foundation for earthquake relief in Haiti! And here you thought "helping people survive an earthquake" was a relatively apolitical cause! Of course Mr. Youngkin, merely by creating a big drama using the word "Clinton," has dog-whistled the hell out of the Trumpholes, but it also looks like he can't actually win an argument. If Virginia Democrats don't run a million ads depicting Mr. Youngkin whining in crap-loaded diapers, they deserve to lose this race.
Finally, in a peripherally-related matter, Andi Zeisler writes about "(t)he question keeping Trump-loving men up at night: Why won't women date us?" Of course, this is how civilized society is supposed to work! If you earn shame and shunning, you get shamed and shunned! And yet some right-wing "thinkers" actually argue that the state might best be put to service getting these men partners, which sure is a hifalutin way of saying you don't give a fuck what women want. Seriously, this is an extraordinary article, one that uses the tenets of conservatism itself against the men who whine that no one wants to cuddle with them.
