Long story short: tell your Congressfolk to pass the PRO Act, make the Child Tax Credit expansion permanent, pass the Farm Systems Reform Act, the Algorithmic Justice and Online Transparency Act, the For the People Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and stop funding new nuclear weapons. Use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of this page (or, if you're on a cellphone, the bottom of this page) to find your Congressfolk's phone numbers, or use the email/petition tools in the following paragraphs.
Daily Kos helps you tell your Senators to pass H.R. 842, the Protecting the Right to Organize (or PRO) Act. The PRO Act would repeal state-level "right to work" laws, stop employers from requiring workers to attend anti-union meetings or sign forced arbitration agreements, would stop employers from retaliating against employees (including managers) who blow the whistle on labor law violations, and would let employees determine how to conduct a union election. You didn't know that from your right-wing Congressfolk, did you? They'll tell you that the bill would injure "your right not to join a union," but that's not what "right-to-work" laws are all about: they're about employers choosing for you not to join a union! And that's not the same thing.
Moms Rising helps you tell your Congressfolk to make the Child Tax Credit (or CTC) expansion permanent. Those $250 or $300 checks have started coming, and since I'm not an evil bastard, I have trouble imagining how the right will portray this as an "evil" -- they could call it "fiscally-irresponsible," but we all know by now that Republicans only care about "fiscal responsibility" when the other party control Congress and the Presidency. But then I realized they could call it "buying votes"! They never call it "buying votes" when Republicans cut corporate taxes and taxes on rich folks -- though, by the evidence of the 2018 elections, that stratagem doesn't buy as many votes as it used to! Anyway, all Democrats need do in response is cut ads portraying fat-cat Republicans taking your $300 checks right out of your hands, and then the "vote-buying" accusation would become irrelevant.
Food and Water Action helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass H.R. 4421/S. 2332, the Farm System Reform Act. One of the biggest problem with farms is how big factory farms are -- they use their outsized influence to make us less safe, thanks to their antibiotic abuse (which helps create superbugs) and the pollution they unleash upon local water tables. But the Farm System Reform Act would ban construction of new factory farms and expansion of existing ones, plus it would close down the existing ones by 2040. How will we get our food, then? Through the multitudinous smaller farmers who will better be able to thrive, now that factory farms aren't in their way. Remember: the "problem" isn't government -- it's the big corporation.
Free Press helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass H.R. 3611/S. 1896, the Algorithmic Justice and Online Platform Transparency Act. Even President Biden has lately lamented how easily social media corporations can disseminate lies, but this bill would help put a stop to that -- first by requiring a crap-ton of transparency from social media corporations about their algorithmic processes and their content moderation practices (including whether people or machines do the moderating!), and then by making certain online practices illegal if said practices violate a user's civil rights (including their voting rights). The bill doesn't outlaw algorithms (which I'd happily do! I don't care if it makes cat videos harder to find!), but I bet the social media corporations will whine about being made to disclose exactly how they use them, in plain language. They can cry into all their hundred-dollar bills.
Daily Kos, the Sierra Club, and People for the American Way all help you tell your Senators to pass H.R. 1, the For the People Act. Plus Daily Kos helps you sign up to call West Virginians and urge them to urge their Senator, Joe Manchin, to vote for the For the People Act. Meanwhile, Common Cause, People for the American Way, and the Daily Kos Liberation League all help you tell your Congressfolk to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. If you want to end gerrymandering, dark money, and racist vote suppression, you want these bills to pass. It doesn't matter that Republicans (and Joe Manchin!) make up stories about the "harms" these bills would do. You're right, and they're wrong. It's that simple.
Finally, Peace Action helps you tell your Congressfolk to stop funding nuclear weapons. Are we so afraid some other nation will come up with a more efficient way of destroying the planet? Our current stockpile of nuclear weapons dopes that quite well, thank you very much! And once you've got the planet-destroying weapon, you don't really need to tweak it. Defense contracting corporations will claim that you do, but consider what they get out of it if we swallow their line of poop: money. They get money out of it. Lots and lots of money. I'm so old-fashioned I don't think money is a very good reason to do anything -- particularly if it's my hard-earned taxpayer money becoming someone else's corporate welfare. So don't believe the hype. After all, it ain't called "hype" because it's true!
