Food tech corporation develops method to store perishable food for up to 90 days without refrigeration -- essentially, they pasteurize the food with carbon dioxide rather than heat or steam, as it's typically done. Farther Farms, of Rochester, NY, might well revolutionize the processed food industry, which relies heavily on refrigerated transportation for a lot of perishable goods, and might well help save a lot of food that gets thrown out. But I am a little perturbed that they're focusing mainly on preserving processed foods, rather than just-picked fruits and vegetables.
Ho hum, Congressional Republicans are claiming that the January 6 insurrection was like a "normal tourist visit" and/or that it was really the fault of antifa and/or Black Lives Matter. They don't give out awards for gaslighting, fellas. Do they not remember that we saw everything?
Michelle Nickerson at the Washington Post says the rise of the alleged moderate Rep. Stefanik to GOP House leadership "manages to mark the decline of conservatism’s ideological grip on the GOP, while simultaneously marking the growing visibility of old-fashioned American racism and voter suppression." If you're seeing an opportunity for Democrats to take advantage by a) doing good works and b) repeating that vote suppressors are sore losers, well, all this apparently contradictory messaging might keep "untraditional partisans" (i.e., those who don't much care about traditional "pro-family" issues but don't like immigrants, for example) in the fold. Also, these are Democrats we're talking about. Read the whole article, as it reminds us that anti-feminism has been a core Republican principle for a long time, and will remain one even as they put more women like Ms. Stefanik out front.
Again I read that a slew of former Republican elected officials want to start a third party of "rational" conservatives, and again I wonder how many right-wing parties America needs. And again I note that being a never-Trumper sure as hell doesn't make you a "conservative." Did Tha Bush Mobb value tradition, prudence, order? I do not think you could reasonably conclude that they did -- unless you confuse conservatism with reactionary stupidity.
The Vatican warns U.S. bishops against denying folks communion if they happen to support abortion rights or euthanasia, and I have to say that sure seems like a good policy, perhaps even a Christian policy, if you understand the Parable of the Prodigal Son to mean the world is full of people who might one day come home. The Vatican even reminds us that abortion and euthanasia aren't the only issues in the world, a reminder that apparently bears repeating, since our politicians never seem to hear it.
Finally, our "liberal" media needs to stop doing Jeff George victory laps about the "low engagement numbers" at Donald Trump's new blog, and not just because most people would hear you say "low engagement numbers" and think you were trying to hoodwink them. I don't think he's dumb to write a blog at all, and I don't say that because I'd love to have these allegedly lackluster numbers myself; I say it because sometimes going backward is the best way to go forward. I mean, if you don't have big social media in your corner anymore, you have to use "old" social media. Certainly media criticisms will continue to fall flat as long as they cling to "the numbers."
