Dig this: Tyson Foods managers at its Waterloo (IA) plant not only "explicitly directed supervisors to ignore symptoms of COVID-19, telling them to show up to work even if they were exhibiting symptoms of the virus," but actually started a pool to bet on how many of their workers would get sick. That's as good a reason as any to remind President-elect Joe Biden that the American voters did give him a mandate this month -- that mandate being "don't run the country like that guy did! -- and thus Public Citizen helps you tell President-elect Biden not to hire big corporate types for key jobs in his Administration, including Agriculture Secretary and OSHA administrator. After all, if they're capable of betting on how many of their workers will get sick, they shouldn't be in charge of anything, let alone "building back better" from a pandemic and a crippled economy.
Meanwhile, H.R. 7848/S. 4360, the Counselors Not Criminalization in Schools Act, would end federal funding for putting police officers in schools, and would replace those police officers with folks actually trained to deal with mental health issues, since we typically don't train police officers to do that. And we shouldn't! Should we train coal miners to write code? No, we shouldn't; mining coal and writing code use entirely different skills sets, and, in a like manner, enforcing our laws and dealing with folks with mental health issues use entirely different skill sets. Some folks used to respond "cops just need more training" when they contemplate these issues -- I used to say the same thing! -- but we'd do much better deploying folks already trained to do the job. Hence Moms Rising helps you tell your Congressfolk to help out students and police by passing the Counselors Not Criminalization in Schools Act.
Finally, our Secretary of State plans to formally designate the Boycott/Divestment/Sanctions (or BDS) movement as anti-Semitic -- which also means they'll create a blacklist of groups who support BDS. How many times must I tell these pimps! Opposing Israel's actions against the Palestinian people, and working to change them, does not make you anti-Semitic! It's like these people have no idea what anti-Semitism is like -- nothing from this Administration about assholes threatening American Jews or defacing Jewish graveyards, but they sure have plenty to say about good folks who disagree that keeping your boot on Palestinian throats is either a humane policy or an effective one! And how else do you change behavior of foreign countries, particularly when your own government will never make such an effort? Jewish Voice for Peace helps you tell our State Department to abandon this foolish effort to injure free speech.
