Because it's never too early to communicate your will, Daily Kos helps you tell President-elect Biden and your Senators not to confirm any corporate lobbyists to the incoming Biden/Harris Administration -- or any future Administrations. You only need think as far as fossil fuel lobbyist Andrew Wheeler's tenure as EPA Administrator to realize that putting corporate lobbyists in our government is fox/henhouse territory. And don't brook any silliness that corporate lobbyists "know their businesses the best." We have got to stop acting like business tycoons are the only "experts" worth listening to. Denying the value of the advice of scientists and scholars and lawyers and engineers and educators (among so many others!) has helped make our national discourse damn stupid. And anyway, tycoons don't know their businesses the best -- they just know how to extract money from them the best. And that's not a skill we can use.
Meanwhile, if you've missed previous opportunities to tell your Congressfolk to make the rich pay their fair share of taxes, then Daily Kos still helps you do that. You've heard, no doubt, that our current President (i.e., the one who will be out of office on January 20) paid exactly zero dollars in federal taxes in two-thirds of the years between 2003-2017 and a mere $750 in federal taxes in 2016 and 2017, and you've also heard, no doubt, that billionaires have made an absolute killing from this pandemic, and they already pay too little in taxes. Why, the fact that we have over 600 billionaires proves we don't make the rich pay enough in taxes! Back when we had the greatest middle class in history, and the tax rates were 91% on millionaire income and 55% on corporate profits, we had one billionaire; now we have billionaires who jack up the prices of life-saving drugs just because they can. They do us harm -- but the good we can do if we tax them properly would more than outdo it.
Finally, if you've missed previous opportunities to tell your Congressfolk to pass a Constitutional amendment abolishing the Electoral College, then Change.org still helps you do that. Twice in the last 20 years (2000 and 2016) our Electoral College enabled the election of a patently unqualified candidate rather than stopped it, as our Founders supposed it would do, but the circumstances of the 2020 Presidential election also suggests we should get rid of it, even though the far less-unqualified candidate did eventually win the race. Mr. Biden was beating our current President by two points in the popular vote as of the morning of November 4, but if the counting had stopped then, he'd have lost Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and thus also the election. And Mr. Biden had more than 50% of the popular vote that morning! Imagine getting more than 50% in an election and somehow still losing. That's what our Electoral College permits, and how is that the "will of the people"?
