H.R. 8050, the Israeli Annexation Non-Recognition Act, would prevent our government from recognizing or aiding Israel's ongoing annexation of the West Bank. Yeah, I know, they've "paused" their annexation plans, but just like Mr. DeJoy's "suspension" of changes to our Post Office, this "pause" is meaningless, since annexation is so far along already. And we know Israel would have a much tougher time annexing the West Bank if we didn't send them so much of our taxpayer money. Folks who interpret my position as "anti-Israeli security" should consider, again (I mean, I feel like I've said this a hundred times!) whether Israel guarantees its security through its ongoing occupation of Palestine, or jeopardizes it. And folks who look at H.R. 8050's sponsor list and say ZOMG ITZ TEH SQUADZ!!!!! need to stop imagining politics as team sports. Your team is America, people! And we can absolutely be a friend to Israel and stand up to apartheid at the same time. Hence Jewish Voice for Peace helps you tell your Congressfolk to support H.R. 8050.
Meanwhile, if you've missed previous opportunities to tell your Congressfolk to ban "conversion" "therapy" across our great land, then Change.org still helps you do that. What is "conversion" "therapy" and why do I put it in obviously ironic quotation marks? Because it purports to change gay folks into straight folks, which is impossible, and it purports to do so through "therapies" that include re-enacting past sexual abuses and "exercises" involving nudity and intimate touching. Surely its proponents can see why such "therapy" so often leads to depression and suicide for the "converted"? Alas, many do not -- many only see their own hatred of gays, their own self-hatred, or their own need for attention and drama. I suspect many of those who do find that changing is a lot like turning around a cruise ship. But there's hope for such people. You know why? Because changing into someone who doesn't live to hurt others is much, much easier than turning gay folks into straight folks.
