Happy Tuesday, good Americans! Now call your Senators and tell them to pass H.R. 6800, the HEROES Act. Yes, we should tell our Congressfolk that we want proper COVID-19 testing and tracing and we want to fund our Post Office, but should also tell our Senators "the HEROES Act would already do both!" And the HEROES Act would also help states and localities plug the major funding holes left by the pandemic, and it would also provide another round of stimulus checks to good Americans making less than six figures (and, depending on your family's size, it'd be a bigger check than the one the CARES Act provided). Not for nothing, but the HEROES Act would also expand certain tax credits working families enjoy, while repealing a tax credit only very wealthy people enjoy. As if they're the needy! Your local redhat will probably retort that rich folks "create jobs." Go ahead and remind them that working families actually create the jobs by buying goods and services. Without us, rich folks would be nothing.
Meanwhile, our Bureau of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (or ICE) has decided to force international students to take in-person classes in order to stay in America! You see the problem with that, I trust: many colleges will not be conducting in-person classes this year! And ICE waited until hearing about that to implement their rule change! Of course our President still imports foreign workers for his businesses, and pays them in dung pellets, but then his foreign workers are TEH BESTEZTZ EVAHZ!!!!! Not like those kids at Harvard and MIT, eh? Seriously, you would have to be some kind of monster to do this -- and some observers have speculated that the cruelty actually isn't the point, that our Administration implemented this change merely to force colleges to open fully regardless of how many hundreds of thousands of Americans have died of COVID-19 by then. Whatever the actual evil, LeftNet helps you demand that ICE rescind its obviously-cruel rule change.
Finally, if you've missed previous opportunities to tell your Congressfolk to ensure that all Americans can get a COVID-19 vaccine, then Americans for Tax Fairness still helps you do that. And when your local redhat asks you why you want to just give vaccines away when big drug corporations take risks all the time and deserve to make profits, just tell them that their taxes paid for the development of that drug. Really, that answer obliterates all arguments! The American taxpayer has spent over $5 billion on COVID-19 vaccines just in the last five months, so we deserve more of a say how we get that vaccine. And getting $5 billion in taxpayer money sure does mitigate a lot of risk! It even calls into question big pharma corporations' "right" to make profits -- do they have a "right" to make profits off public investment? Maybe we have more of a right to profit from public investment! I'm quite serious -- if we're the investors, why doesn't our government treat us like investors?
