Now that our President is trying to bully America's schools into reopening this September -- threatening to cut the funding they'd need to reopen and keep folks safe from COVID-19, naturally! -- Progress America helps you tell your Congressfolk that we need to ramp up COVID-19 testing, tracing, and isolation in a big way. Our President loves telling everyone we do more tests than every other country, but doing "more tests" doesn't matter very much in a land of over 300 million people -- and certainly not if you don't take the time to figure out where infections come from and isolate their sources. And, you know, if you're thinking America's size is an impediment to doing things right, you should also remember three other things: a) America's population density is very light in much of the country, which helps stop the spread of disease; b) America's also bounded by oceans east and west, which also helps stop the spread of disease; and c) great nations don't make excuses.
Meanwhile, Roots Action joins with World Without War to help you tell your Congressfolk to divert approximately $74 billion in defense spending toward things actual human beings need, like pandemic management, education, scientific research, and fighting pollution. If you believe the best defense is a healthy civilization that prioritizes people over corporations in its budgeting -- like me! -- you'll want to tell your Congressfolk to support this amendment. If you fear diverting any money from defense spending will result in terrorists parachuting into your front yard and converting your daughters to Islam, then I recommend navigating away from this page and never returning to it. We already spend more money on "defense" than the next eight countries on that list combined, and I put "defense" in ironic quotation marks for a reason -- we would better describe a lot of "defense" spending as "corporate welfare," or "corruption." So let's maybe make people a little more important.
