The government of Iran has sentenced Nasrin Sotoudeh to 38 years in prison and 148 lashes, for (among other "charges") "being a member of a human rights organization" and "encouraging corruption and prostitution," which you no doubt recognize as BS charges concocted by a government that's insecure in its power. And what has Ms. Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer, actually done? Advocate against Iranian law mandating that all women wear the hijab, or head covering, for one thing. What's wrong with wearing a hijab? Absolutely nothing! What's wrong with threatening to imprison women who don't wear it? Absolutely everything! But no doubt she's also in prison for spending most of her career representing minors facing death sentences, opponents of the Iranian government, and abused children threatened with going back to their abusive parents. Hence Amnesty International helps you tell the Iranian government to free Ms. Sotoudeh.
Meanwhile, our government deployed a carrier "strike group" and a "bomber task force" to the Middle East last week, purportedly as a "warning" to Iran, but the Navy said the deployment was "regularly-scheduled," so our Administration's posturing about it sure smells like a false flag operation. But, as Zombie Lyndon Johnson would tell you, false flag operations work far better when Americans aren't so cynical about our President. A false flag op is about all our Administration has left, though -- pulling out of the nuclear deal which was working! may have induced Iran to demand more from the deal's European partners, thanks to the sanctions our government reinstituted after pulling out, but everyone remembers that our President only pulled out of that deal because he felt like it. Still, we might need to head off yet another stupid war, so Peace Action helps you tell your Congressfolk to pass legislation mandating no military action against Iran without Congressional approval.
Finally, our President's 2020 budget has
