So it's 2018 and we still can't buy our cable TV channels a la carte! I know, it sure does seem like social media and streaming video are winning the battle, but cable TV channels still make money from you merely by being part of a cable package you have to buy! And if you don't like, say, cable news channels, you can make your cable corporation block them, but you'll still pay for them, and as long as you're still paying them, they won't change their evil ways. So here's an idea: using the tools in the upper left-hand corner of this page (or the bottom, if you're viewing it on a smartphone), call your Reps and Senators and demand a la carte bill that'll force cable corporations to refund the cost of cable channels you won't watch and don't want in your house. A lot of cable channels cost less than a buck a month, but if hundreds of thousands of Americans got their money back, they'd get scared, and with added pressure we could get them to change their behavior.
Meanwhile, S. 2755, the Postal Banking Act, would allow the United States Postal Service (or USPS) to offer basic financial services, including savings and checking accounts, small loans, and debit cards. The USPS used to offer these services until around 50 years ago, so why start it up again? Because the Post Office could fill a niche for working families in rural and urban areas the big banksters don't serve, a niche that currently gets filled far too often by payday lenders trapping those families in a cycle of debt. Restarting postal banking would also help the USPS survive financial troubles that Congress created in 2006, by mandating that the USPS fund over 80 years' worth of pension obligations in advance, a hurdle our laws impose on no other entity. So, basically, it's a win for working families and a win for the Post Office, which kinda makes that two wins for working families. So CREDO helps you tell your Congressfolk to help working families in underserved rural and urban areas by supporting the Postal Banking Act.
