Moms Rising helps you tell your Congressfolk to reauthorize both the Children's Health Insurance Program (or CHIP) and the Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (or MIECHV). The House passed a CHIP reauth bill, as you may know, but funded it in large part by defunding Affordable Care Act-sponsored prevention programs -- because, after all, why would anyone want to prevent illnesses from happening in the first place? -- and the Senate hasn't yet figured out how to fund it. Of course, Congress let both CHIP and MIECHV lapse at the end of September, after trying for yet another month to destroy the Affordable Care Act, and now of course their nefarious tax "reform" bill sucks up all the oxygen in the room (with a resolution funding our government beyond next month on tap). It really is like Congress doesn't know how to do anything right, though of course that's just what they want us to think. Clearly they've calculated that gerrymandering and Voter ID and Interstate Crosscheck insulates them from the consequences of their actions. They'd better hope Tuesday's results in Virginia aren't predictive.
Meanwhile, if you've missed previous opportunities to tell the FEC to require campaign finance disclosure of political advertising on social media, then CREDO still helps you do that. And the FEC, like all of Mr. Trump's other federal agencies, has provided only an absurdly short window for the public to comment upon the matter -- why, it's like they really don't think the public should have very much of a say about anything they want to do! -- and, sadly, that window closes today, so you want to get right on this. Strange -- it seems like only a week ago I was bringing this up for the first time. Anyway, as you know, the FEC already requires TV and radio ads to disclose the source of their spending, so why not social media ads, particularly since more folks get their news from social media than ever before? "Why not," for right-wingers, may well come down to TEH LIBRULZ WANTZ IT THEREFOREZ IT'S TEH BADZ!!!!!, but they don't get all the say around here -- unless their comments to the FEC outnumber ours, I suppose. Let's try to avert such a catastrophe if we can -- and we can.
