Research deriving from "literally 'millions' of ocean measurements over time" shows oxygen levels already falling in our oceans -- which scientists have long predicted to be a result of climate change. That'll affect marine life in a big way, which may not impress you until you recall how many industries (like, you know, fisheries) rely on marine life. (In a related note, the Senate votes on Scott Pruitt for EPA Administrator today; you might want to call your Senators about that.)
In case you were wondering how it's going in Greece, well, people it's bad. If anyone needed to leave the EU it's Greece, but Alexis Tsipras is a lot like Barack Obama -- coming into office with a burst of hope and a clear mandate from the people (a mandate, I feel compelled to add, that the people gave Mr. Tsipras again in a national referendum on yet another lousy "bailout"), but he's completely bollocksed it up, and having seen this play before, I'm not willing to consider that he's playing a long game.
Betsy DeVos "fires back at protestors," saying their actions "demonstrate() just how hostile some people are to change and to new ideas." Uh, no: their actions demonstrate how the public at large reacts to bad ideas that have been failing our children for at least 20 years. And in case you were reminiscing about the Glory Days of the Republic During the Obama Administration, there was Mr. Obama's first Education Secretary criticizing the protestors, too.
David Dayen at The New Republic says Andrew Puzder didn't become Labor Secretary because "his beliefs included the one idea conservatives would not abide: support for immigration reform." Mr. Dayen, as astute an observer of American politics as one could imagine, believes the combination of Mr. Puzder's immigration politics, his undocumented housekeeper, and his domestic violence allegations finished him, not "fast-food workers protesting in the streets" or "his reign of terror" as a fast-food CEO. Perhaps he's right. But I also say our work is just beginning.
Finally, in a completely surprising development, the American Legislative Exchange Council, once "skeptical" about a Donald Trump Presidency, is now quite sanguine about the coming horror because of course they are! In other news, the Pope is Catholic, bears poop in the woods, and Democrat weaklings keep masturbating to dreams of a "Grand Bargain" with Republicans. Seriously, I keep saying that looking for fissures between right-wingers is a fool's game, and right-wingers keep proving me right.
