The FCC may have made the right call on net neutrality regulations, but that won't stop Marsha Blackburn! Rep. Blackburn (E-TN) has introduced H.R. 1212, perversely entitled the Internet Freedom Act; the bill would reverse what the FCC did and prevent them from doing it again in the future. Of course you must ask: freedom for whom? Not freedom for you, that's for sure, because you'll have freedom if you get to pick where you go on the internet -- she must mean freedom for big corporations to censor and slow down websites and deliver their "partners"' websites to you more quickly, so that if you want to read your favorite ass-kicking-name-taking political websites, you'll be forced to look at Miley Cyrus twerking videos or some other hysteria first. Note, also, that 29 of the bill's 31 sponsors have received campaign contributions from big telecoms -- one almost wonders what on Earth is wrong with the other two! -- and Ms. Blackburn herself has received over $250,000 from these corporations over the years. Free Press helps you tell your House Rep to preserve real internet freedom and reject Ms. Blackburn's bill.
Meanwhile, if you've missed previous action alerts helping you tell President Obama to issue an Executive order mandating campaign finance disclosure for federal contractors, then the People's Email Network also helps you do that. This is not "unfair" to federal contractors -- federal contractors know if they take government money they need to follow government rules. No private investor would invest without some control over their investment, so why should our government -- especially considering they write their checks with our money? This bears repeating: the corporatists constantly whinge on about "big government," hoping you'll forget that this government is yours -- it derives its authority from you, and the money it spends is your money. And if right-wingers really think that the American people don't deserve to know how big corporations are spending their money, I wish they'd just come out and say so, instead of squealing ZOMG OBAMA TEH DIKTATUR!!!!, when they called you "traitor" for questioning any of their Personal Lord and Savior George W. Bush's Executive orders back in the day.
