I have no urgent action alerts today, nor urgent penny rants percolating, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to note that Senator Specter turned against the Employee Free Choice Act yesterday, citing the bad economy, etc., and promising to reconsider when the economy returns to "normalcy." Senator Specter's move is, of course, completely unexpected. And by "completely unexpected," please understand that I mean "what he always does when he's the deciding vote on something that will displease his party."

No, really, I mean what I say. Sens. Snowe and Collins gave Mr. Specter plenty of cover on his stimulus bill vote. Mr. Specter's famous opposition to the Robert Bork nomination in 1987 changed nothing -- Mr. Bork's nomination would have failed, by a large margin, without his help -- whereas Mr. Specter's famous support of Clarence Thomas helped Mr. Thomas gain confirmation by a mere four-vote margin. Mr. Specter shepherded two reactionary Justices onto the Supreme Court in just six months while he was Judiciary Chair. All of Mr. Specter's crowing about warrantless wiretapping still led him to vote for the FISA Amendments Act. And he's a flat-tax proponent.

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly snark posts.

I look around me and I see it isn't so.
