David Swanson, author and Washington director of ImpeachPAC (what do you suppose they're about?), describes Tony Trupiano, a possible Democratic candidate for Congress in Michigan's 11th District who has pledged to pursue impeachment charges against Mr. Bush if he's elected. If, like me, you wouldn't mind voting for Democrats if they'd actually be Democrats, but are sick of being held hostage by fear of Republicans, then fellows like Tony Trupiano might be for you.
I worry, of course, that the DNC won't stand for such foolishness and will actively destroy candidacies like Mr. Trupiano's because they "can't win." Whereas the Republicans' propensity for Killing Their Own is a relatively recent development, Democrats are masters at that particular black art. Happily, recent history suggests that the Democrats might not have a choice in the matter: recall how little the Republican establishment wanted to do with the Gingrichoids that ran in 1994 and wound up winning both Houses. Republicans were in the same boat in both Houses in 1994 as the Democrats are now.
