Julie Chinitz at the OurFuture blog tells us the Republicans' real aim in pursuing Obamacare repeal is to gut Medicaid. We shouldn't think of Medicaid as being "for other people" the way we do, since we're all a few bad days at work away from needing it. And a lot of Trump voters, as you know, rather like Medicaid, and it works pretty well, which is undoubtedly why Republicans want to sacrifice it to (as Ms. Chinitz puts it) "a redistribution of wealth from the poor and middle-income to the rich."
President Trump plans to deport anyone who crosses the Mexican border back to Mexico, regardless of where they actually come from. Doesn't he know that those brown people he hates also sometimes hate each other? I kid, of course; the man doesn't care. Plus he plans to deport anyone who's committed a crime, but he's going to include "crossing the border" as a crime, meaning when he tells you he'll be discerning on this matter, that he's lying. I guess all I can say is good luck with that.
Surprise, surprise, ProPublica and USA Today find that the Orlando (FL) school district stashes low-performing students at charter schools -- and then doesn't count them as dropouts when they drop out of those charter schools. Remember, when you read about matters like this, that the hysteria over "Our Failing Schools" was largely manufactured by the right, and that "alternative" schools are largely a way of funneling taxpayer money to some politician's cronies.
Now this is funny: an Iowa pig farmer tells Sen. Charles Grassley at a townhall that repealing the Affordable Care Act would "create one big death panel." You may recall (as Mr. Peterson clearly does!) that Mr. Grassley was the Senator pushing those death panel claims back in 2009. I presume Mr. Grassley will ignore his constituents on Obamacare, since that's the price Republicans extract from him for actually doing decent oversight at other times.
Finally, Donald Trump's getting attention for finally denouncing anti-Semitism, but his statement that "I hope they catch the people" responsible for recent bombing threats against Jewish community centers. "I hope they catch the people"? Not we will catch those responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law? I guess if Dear Leader isn't emotionally-invested in something, he doesn't swing his balls about it.
