Holiday Inn fired two L.A. Airport workers after they blew the whistle on that Holiday Inn's multitudinous sins -- including failing to provide dishsoap, toilet and sink cleaners, and even laundry detergent for bedsheets and towels. Perhaps not coincidentally, workers also allege that the LAX Holiday Inn withholds wages and forces unpaid overtime. You know what all this tells me? That Holiday Inn doesn't care about its customers; it only cares about making money. You'd think we'd see that right away -- that when a corporation that treats its workers badly and doesn't give them what they need to do their jobs, it's actually flipping the bird to its customers -- except that the right wing has spent 30 years driving a wedge between workers and customers. So let's break on through, by telling Holiday Inn to make things right with their workers and customers.
We were just talking about Florida's vote suppression tactics this morning, weren't we? Well, Florida Governor Rick "Lex Luthor" Scott tried to purge over 180,000 voters from the rolls in June -- even though the Department of Justice opposed him -- only to be stopped by Florida's county election supervisors, many of whom are Republicans. Of course Gov. Scott has just restarted his purge, because he doesn't care what we think. So it's time, again, to tell Florida's county supervisors to stop Gov. Scott from keeping good Floridians away from the polls. I shudder to think that the county supervisors' June opposition could have been theatre -- something to burnish their good name while the real voter purge went down less than a month before Election Day. Naturally, I'd prefer to think better of people than that. But only if they give me reason to think better of them than that.
